COURSE CURRICULUM

The Canine Studies programme offers a comprehensive two-year curriculum that combines animal science, practical canine care, and business management to prepare students for professional careers in the growing canine industry. During the first year, students develop a strong foundation in canine studies through modules covering the origins and evolution of dogs, canine nutrition, genetics and development, and introductory grooming techniques. They also gain knowledge in accounting, helping them understand the financial aspects of managing canine-related businesses. In the second semester, students focus on practical and behavioural aspects of canine care, studying obedience training and learning techniques, canine day-care and boarding operations, health and diseases, and canine behaviour. An internship component provides valuable hands-on experience and allows students to apply their knowledge in professional environments. In the third semester, the programme expands into advanced topics, including the role of canines in society, animal welfare, ethics and law, advanced grooming techniques, canine anatomy and physiology, and computer applications relevant to modern business operations. The final semester develops students' managerial and professional competencies through modules in business law, advanced canine behaviour, marketing principles, teaching strategies and people skills, and canine business management. Throughout the programme, students acquire practical skills in animal handling, training, grooming, kennel management, customer relations, and business operations while developing an understanding of legal responsibilities and ethical standards in animal care. The curriculum integrates theoretical knowledge with practical experience, enabling graduates to provide high standards of care and management while understanding the commercial and operational aspects of the canine industry. Upon completion, students are well prepared for careers in dog training, grooming, boarding facilities, kennels, pet care centres, and canine business management or for establishing their own pet-related enterprises. Overall, the programme provides a balanced education that combines scientific knowledge, professional practice, and entrepreneurial skills, preparing graduates to succeed in the diverse and rapidly expanding field of canine care and management.
