COURSE CURRICULUM

The English Language Foundation program at Alexander College is structured to develop students’ proficiency in all aspects of English, preparing them for successful entry into undergraduate studies. In Semester A, students begin with an introduction to the language expectations of the program and the academic environment, familiarizing themselves with the skills required in listening, speaking, reading, and writing while gaining orientation to higher education culture, academic integrity, research ethics, and time management. Emphasis is placed on study skills, note-taking, organizing materials, and using campus and online resources, including digital contexts such as emails, social media, and other technology. The Listening and Speaking Skills Development module focuses on understanding main ideas in both concrete and abstract topics through lectures, debates, and discussions while improving pronunciation, intonation, grammar, and sentence structure. The Reading Skills Enhancement module trains students to analyze academic texts, identify arguments, infer information, and develop critical reading and notetaking skills, integrating grammar exercises at the B2 level. In Semester B, students further develop writing skills, producing structured essays, reports, and summaries while adhering to academic conventions and referencing styles. Academic Vocabulary and Language modules enhance discipline-specific vocabulary and lexical accuracy, while Language Practice and Application modules provide opportunities for practical use of English in discussions, presentations, and collaborative projects, fostering confidence, clarity, and effective communication in formal and informal academic settings.
