Course Curriculum

The MSc International Accounting and Sustainability at the University of Southampton equips students with advanced knowledge in accounting, finance, and sustainability, integrating theoretical, research, and practice-led approaches. Core modules such as Fundamentals of Financial Accounting and Fundamentals of Management Accounting provide a strong grounding in financial principles and management accounting techniques, while Sustainability Accounting and Reporting and Sustainability and Resilience focus on integrating environmental and social considerations into financial decision-making. The programme emphasises research skills through modules like Foundations of Research in Accounting and Finance and the Dissertation in Accounting, Finance and Management, allowing students to undertake independent, in-depth investigations and produce a 15,000-word dissertation. Students also explore emerging technologies and innovative practices in accounting through the module on Emerging International Green Accounting Technologies, AI, Innovation and Sustainability. Optional modules allow further specialisation in areas such as Accounting for Corporate Performance and Accountability, Executive Compensation, Financial Reporting and Markets, International Accounting and Taxation, International Corporate Governance, Islamic Accounting, Finance and Governance, and Sustainable Finance, enabling students to tailor their studies to career goals. Graduates of this programme will be prepared to critically evaluate accounting, finance, and sustainability practices, contribute to the improvement of financial information systems, and pursue careers in international accounting, sustainability consultancy, finance, or related professional roles.
