COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Data Science degree provides students with a comprehensive understanding of mathematical, statistical, and computational techniques essential for analysing and interpreting complex data. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in probability and statistics, linear algebra, calculus, programming, algorithms, and data visualisation, establishing the core skills required for data-driven problem solving. The second year advances these competencies with modules in multi-variate calculus, numerical methods, statistical modelling, artificial intelligence, theory of computation, and applications of AI, equipping students to apply quantitative methods to real-world datasets. In the final year, students consolidate their learning through compulsory modules in machine learning, databases and analytics, and a substantial project, allowing them to integrate theory and practice while exploring practical data science challenges. Students also have the flexibility to tailor their studies by choosing optional modules such as ordinary and partial differential equations, robotics and AI, operational research and optimisation, or natural language processing, enabling them to specialise in areas aligned with their career goals. This combination of core knowledge, applied skills, and optional specialisation ensures that graduates are well-prepared for careers in data analysis, finance, technology, and other industries, or for further postgraduate study in advanced computing and data science disciplines.
