COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Computer Science course is designed to give you a strong combination of practical skills and theoretical knowledge, helping you understand how computers, software, and modern technologies work. Throughout the course, you’ll study key areas of computing, including programming, software engineering, databases, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, networking, robotics, and emerging technologies. You’ll gain hands-on experience using industry-standard programming languages such as Python, C#, JavaScript, and SQL, while developing the skills needed to design, build, and manage modern software systems. The course places a strong emphasis on real-world learning through practical projects, industry collaborations, and problem-solving activities. You’ll study in specialist laboratories within the David Goldman Technology Centre and have access to professional software and advanced hardware through partnerships with leading companies such as Cisco. Modules cover full-stack web development, system design, database management, machine learning, deep learning, enterprise software engineering, and robotics, allowing you to explore a wide range of career interests within computing. You’ll also have the opportunity to work on an industrial project with external clients, developing innovative solutions to real business problems while improving your teamwork and communication skills. An optional placement year gives you the chance to gain valuable industry experience before graduating. In your final year, you’ll complete an independent computing project where you can develop an application, conduct technical research, or create a software solution in an area that interests you. Graduates leave with strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills that prepare them for careers as software developers, cybersecurity specialists, data analysts, AI engineers, systems architects, IT managers, and researchers. Previous graduates have secured roles with organisations such as Sage, British Airways, and the National Health Service.
