In the second year, the focus shifts to applied design, including resistance and propulsion analysis, sailing yacht and motorboat design, structural analysis, applied marine systems, and advanced CAD modelling, offering hands-on experience and exposure to real-world design office practices. The final year develops advanced competencies through modules in computer-aided engineering, structural design for production, and an independent project, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios, including renewable energy and sustainable marine engineering considerations. Optional modules provide further specialization in advanced naval architecture, structural design theory, and workplace-based learning, enabling students to gain professional insight and reflective practice experience. Across the degree, emphasis is placed on integrating technical theory with practical application, preparing graduates with the professional, analytical, and design skills necessary to succeed in the competitive maritime, yacht, and small craft engineering industries.
