Course Curriculum

The BSc (Hons) Economics degree at Aston University offers a structured programme that develops strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills through a combination of core and optional modules. In the first year, students build a solid foundation in economic principles and quantitative methods through modules such as Principles of Microeconomics, Principles of Macroeconomics, Political Economy, Mathematics for Economics, Statistics for Economics, Applied Topics in Economics, Games and Economic Behaviour, and Introduction to the Business Environment. These modules introduce key theories and develop skills needed to analyse economic decisions and real-world economic issues. In the second year, students deepen their understanding of economic theory and data analysis through Intermediate Microeconomics, Intermediate Macroeconomics, Econometrics 1, and Econometrics 2, while also choosing four optional modules such as Industrial Organisation, Measuring the Economy, Sports Economics, Applied Business Economics, International Business Economics, Business Management Simulation, International Business and Emerging Market Economies, or Strategic Finance. The third year includes an integrated placement, allowing students to gain professional experience with support from the university’s Careers and Placements team. In the final year, students study Further Topics in Microeconomics, Further Topics in Macroeconomics, and Advanced Econometrics, alongside optional modules such as Applied Economics Research Project, Behavioural Economics, Environmental Economics, International Trade, Public Economics, and Derivatives, preparing graduates for careers in economics, finance, policy analysis, and business.
