Course Curriculum

The Master of Arts in Clinical Counselling major at Tyndale offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed for professional counselling and psychotherapy. The program includes foundational biblical studies courses such as Biblical Interpretation, Old Testament Theology and History, and New Testament Theology and History, alongside theology and Christian history courses like Systematic Theology and Theology of the Human Person. Ministry formation courses focus on leadership development, gospel, church, culture, and spiritual formation. The clinical counselling focus courses provide specialized training, including a research thesis in counselling and psychotherapy. Core counselling courses cover essential topics such as foundational perspectives of Christian counselling, personality theories, family systems theory, research methods, and pre-internship counselling skills labs. Students also study theories and methods of family therapy, cross-cultural perspectives, current issues in psychopathology, and gender and socio-economic perspectives in marriage and family therapy. The program culminates in a counselling major internship and emphasizes professional ethics. Electives allow students to tailor their studies to specific interests. Altogether, the 27-credit course requirements prepare graduates to serve effectively as counsellors and psychotherapists in diverse settings, integrating Christian principles with professional practice.
