The Master of Engineering (MEng) in Biomedical Engineering is a course-based graduate program that combines core biomedical knowledge with a flexible selection of technical electives. Students are required to complete the foundational courses Foundations of Biomedical Engineering (BE8001) and Anatomy and Physiology for Medical Physics (BP8114), along with either a Master’s Project or a Biomedical Engineering Internship as a milestone. If the milestone is completed, students take six elective credits; if not, they must complete eight elective credits. One elective credit may be fulfilled through Directed Studies in Biomedical Engineering (BE8003). The program offers a wide range of electives that allow students to specialize in areas such as rehabilitation engineering, biomedical system modeling, genetic engineering computations, and the design of biomedical microelectromechanical systems (Bio-MEMS). Students interested in imaging and diagnostics can take courses like Advanced Medical Image Analysis, Biomedical Ultrasound, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, and Digital Image Processing. Additional electives span diverse topics including tissue engineering, biomaterials, nanobiotechnology, robotics, microfluidics, and advanced signal processing. Courses are drawn from multiple engineering disciplines including mechanical, chemical, and electrical engineering, providing an interdisciplinary approach suited for the complex nature of biomedical challenges. The program is ideal for students interested in applying advanced engineering principles to health care technology and innovation. It is especially fitting for those already experienced in using or dissecting 3D biomedical models, offering the tools and knowledge needed to transition into roles focused on medical device development, clinical systems, or research and development in health technology industries.
