Course Curriculum

The Therapeutic Recreation program is designed to prepare students for careers in therapeutic and leisure recreational programming tailored specifically for older adults. Students are trained to plan, promote, deliver, and evaluate recreational activities that enhance the physical, emotional, and social well-being of clients in a variety of settings, including personal care homes, health centres, adult day centres, assisted living facilities, and other community-based programs. A strong emphasis is placed on understanding and adhering to workplace safety, privacy laws, and health regulations to ensure that all care provided meets the highest legal and ethical standards. The curriculum is delivered by experienced instructors who bring industry knowledge and practical expertise to the classroom, integrating theoretical learning with applied skills. One of the program’s key features is the inclusion of two field work placements, which offer students invaluable hands-on experience in real-world settings under professional supervision. These placements allow students to build practical skills, confidence, and professional competence in delivering therapeutic recreation services. Throughout the program, students develop critical thinking, communication, and organizational skills essential for working effectively with older adults in healthcare and community environments.
