Course Curriculum

The Respiratory Therapy program courses at NAIT provide a comprehensive and progressive education designed to develop skilled respiratory therapists. In Term 1, students begin with foundational courses such as Anatomy and Physiology, Foundations of Professional Practice, Respiratory Management, and Patient Assessment, establishing essential knowledge and clinical skills. Term 2 expands into specialized areas like Ventilation I, Pharmacology, Airway Management, Adjunctive Therapy, Diagnostics, and Interprofessional Healthcare Education, emphasizing teamwork in clinical settings. In Term 3, students advance to Ventilation II, Pathophysiology, Neonatal Respiratory Care, and Long-term Care and Health Promotion, deepening their understanding of patient care across all ages. Term 4 focuses on complex areas including Ventilation III, Anaesthesia, Adult Critical Care, Pediatric Respiratory Care, and Research in Healthcare, preparing students for critical decision-making in acute care environments. Between Terms 4 and 5, students engage in Introduction to Clinical Practice during an intersession to gain hands-on experience. The final Terms 5 and 6 are dedicated to Clinical Rotations I and II, along with Child Health Clinical Rotations, where students apply their skills in real healthcare settings under supervision. This structured curriculum ensures graduates are thoroughly prepared to deliver high-quality respiratory care across a broad range of medical environments.
