Course Curriculum

The Emergency Services Fundamentals (EMSF) program course structure is designed to provide a solid foundation for students pursuing careers in emergency services and health sciences. In Semester 1, students take core courses such as Mental Health for Emergency Responders, Communication Foundations, APCO Public Safe Telecommunicator, Pre-Health Math I, and Diversity and Inclusion for First Responders. Additionally, students select two optional courses from options including Pre-Health Biology I, Pre-Health Chemistry I, Canadian Criminal Justice System, and Psychology, allowing for some customization based on interests and career goals. Semester 2 continues with core courses that include Computers for Health Care Professionals, Professional Certifications, Ethics, Health and Fitness Preparation for Emergency Services, Introduction to Law and Civics, and Leadership. Students also choose one optional course from Pre-Health Biology II, Pre-Health Chemistry II, or Security Guard, which helps tailor the program further toward their future studies or professional aspirations. This blend of core and elective courses ensures students develop critical knowledge and skills in areas such as communication, mental health, ethics, fitness, and law, all essential for success in emergency response careers. The comprehensive curriculum prepares students academically and professionally, supporting a smooth transition to more specialized programs like Paramedic, Police Foundations, or Firefighter training.
