Course Curriculum

The Interior Design Fundamentals Certificate program provides a strong foundation for students pursuing a career in residential interior design. Spanning three terms, the program covers 47.0 credits and introduces students to the core principles of design, communication, and technical drawing. In Term 1, students take courses such as Communication 1, Design Theory 1, Materials for Interior Design, Freehand Drawing, Visual Communication 2D, and Fabrics and Applications. These courses develop essential skills in material understanding, manual drawing, and design fundamentals. Term 2 builds on this foundation with courses like Introduction to InDesign, Colour for Interior Design, Visual & Graphic Communication, AutoCAD for Interior Design, Residential Studio A, and History of Interiors and Furniture, enhancing students' digital literacy, color application, and historical context in design. In Term 3, students complete their certificate with Academic Writing, Digital Illustration for Interior Design, Introduction to Lighting, Residential Construction Drawings, and Residential Studio B. This final term focuses on construction documentation, lighting design, advanced illustration techniques, and studio-based problem solving. The program balances creativity with technical precision and includes both hand-drawn and digital work. Through the integration of studio work, software training, and theoretical courses, students are prepared to advance into more specialized interior design education or entry-level industry roles.
