Course Curriculum

The Major in Sports Studies requires 48 credits, including 21 credits of core courses and 27 credits of concentration courses and electives. Core courses include: SPO 101 Introduction to Sports Studies, SPO 201 Sociology of Sport, SPO 203 History of Sport, SPO 205 Psychology of Sport, SPO 207 Media and Sport, SPO 209 Exercise Physiology, and SPO 401 Research Methods in Sports Studies. For the Athletic Development concentration, courses include: SPO 211 Practicum I, SPO 215 Introduction to Sport Management, SPO 301 Biomechanics of Sport, SPO 303 Health Promotion, SPO 311 Practicum II, SPO 315 Sport Facility Management, SPO 317 Sponsorship and Fundraising, SPO 321 Sport and Communication, SPO 407 Issues and Trends in Sport Administration, and SPO 421 Sociology of Sport and Leisure. For the Health and Exercise concentration, courses include: SPO 211 Practicum I, SPO 303 Health Promotion, SPO 305 Health and Exercise, SPO 307 Nutrition for Sport and Exercise, SPO 309 Exercise Physiology II, SPO 311 Practicum II, SPO 403 Exercise Prescription, SPO 405 Health Education, and SPO 407 Issues and Trends in Sport Administration. Students must also complete electives from related disciplines.
