Course Curriculum

The Master of Urban and Cultural Heritage is a 100-point program consisting of 50 points of core subjects and 50 points of electives, offering a flexible structure that allows students to tailor their studies to professional interests. After completing the core subjects, students may choose either an industry internship or a minor research thesis, enabling them to build practical experience or develop academic research skills. The program emphasises cross-disciplinary and integrated approaches to heritage, professional training in design, research and presentation, and specialist teaching in partnership with industry experts. A key feature of the degree is the opportunity to undertake internships—available in short or long formats and matched to student skills and goals—subject to availability and approval. The program includes nested qualification exit points: students may choose to complete only 25 or 50 points to receive a Specialist Certificate or Graduate Certificate in Urban and Cultural Heritage. Additionally, professionals can expand their capability through the ACAHUCH MicroCert series, offering online short courses designed to strengthen applied skills in heritage practice. Core subjects include Principles of Heritage and Conservation and Issues and Techniques in Global Heritage, which explore theoretical foundations, global case studies, policy frameworks and contemporary challenges such as community participation, intangible heritage, urban development, sustainability, war-affected heritage and tourism.
