The Master of Digital Infrastructure Engineering is a two-to-three-year full-time program designed to prepare students to use digital technologies to monitor, analyse and manage the physical world. The structure of the program depends on prior academic background: students entering from non-engineering fields begin with foundation engineering subjects in the first year, building essential technical capability to apply their diverse knowledge to engineering contexts. Students who have completed a Digital Infrastructure Engineering Systems major with the required mathematics and science subjects may receive credit for these foundation subjects and commence their studies in the second year. During the second and third years, students deepen their technical skills by developing digital solutions that support smart sustainable environments, engaging with emerging technologies such as Smart Cities systems, the Internet of Things, remote sensing and data-driven tools that enable intelligent decision-making. The program includes industry, design or research projects that provide hands-on experience and develop the competencies required for professional engineering practice. Students can tailor their degree by choosing from a broad range of specialisations aligned to specific career pathways or elect to proceed without specialisation. Options include Cultural Heritage, Artificial Intelligence, Business, Communication Infrastructure, Construction, Energy, Industry, Information Systems, Information Technology, Land, Mobility, Smart Cities, Sustainable Cities and Water. Each specialisation enables students to apply digital infrastructure engineering skills across different domains, from designing 5G and IoT communication networks to shaping water resource systems or transforming land surveying through digital tools. The Land specialisation satisfies requirements for Surveyor Registration Board of Victoria accreditation. Throughout the course, students learn to combine geospatial technology, programming, data processing and management frameworks to create advanced system solutions that support sustainable, resilient and efficient built and natural environments. This flexible and industry-connected program equips graduates with sought-after skills to meet the growing demand for digital transformation across infrastructure industries.
