The Bachelor of Journalism is a three-year program that combines practical training with theoretical knowledge to prepare students for careers in news and media. In the first year, students complete 48 credit points of core courses, including Visualising News, Journalism Essentials, Journalism Reporting and Writing, and Journalism Law and Ethics. They also select 48 credit points from minors or school options, allowing them to tailor their studies to specific interests. The second year focuses on applied journalism skills, with 60 credit points dedicated to courses such as Reporting with Sound and Image, Digital Journalism, Features and Storytelling, and Fact Checking and Verification. Students also complete 36 credit points from their chosen minors or school options. In the third year, students undertake advanced practical training through courses including Newsroom Practice, Journalism: Professional Placement, and the Journalism Capstone, totaling 60 credit points. These courses provide hands-on experience in real-world newsroom environments, professional reporting, and media production, helping students build a professional portfolio of published work. The program ensures graduates are job-ready for entry-level roles as journalists or prepared for related careers such as corporate communication specialist, media advisor, or content producer. By blending theory, practice, and industry engagement, the degree equips students with the skills, knowledge, and professional experience required to succeed in both Australian and international media industries.
