COURSE CURRICULUM

The Earth Sciences program is structured to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of geological processes, Earth materials, environmental systems, and resource management. After completing foundational studies in the first year, students progress to specialized coursework in the second year, beginning with Field Geology Techniques and Mineralogy and Geochemistry. These subjects develop essential skills in geological investigation, field observation, mineral identification, and understanding the chemical composition of Earth materials. Students then select additional units from a range of options, including Earth Resources and Sustainability, Sedimentology and Stratigraphy, Geological Field Mapping, Petrology, and Environmental and Groundwater Geophysics, allowing them to explore areas such as natural resources, geological history, rock formation, and environmental systems. In the third year, students expand their knowledge through advanced subjects covering Atmospheric and Oceanographic Sciences, Climate and the Biosphere, Structural Geology, Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology, Ore Deposits, and Basin Dynamics. Further options include Sustainable Development, Tectonics and the Dynamic Earth, Environmental Geoscience, Mineral Exploration Techniques, STEM Professional Practice, and Earth Observation from Space. The program combines fieldwork, laboratory analysis, remote sensing, and data interpretation to develop practical and analytical skills. Graduates are prepared to apply Earth science knowledge to challenges in resource management, environmental sustainability, climate studies, geological research, and related industries.
