Bachelor of Science in Chemistry

COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Chemistry program is structured to develop students’ understanding of fundamental chemical principles while building advanced laboratory, analytical, and research skills. After completing foundational studies in the first year, students progress to specialized chemistry units in the second year. Students study Chemical Energetics and Kinetics, which explores energy changes, reaction rates, and the factors influencing chemical processes, along with Chemical Structure and Spectroscopy, which focuses on molecular structures and techniques used to analyze chemical compounds. In the second semester, students undertake Analytical Chemistry, developing skills in chemical measurement, identification, and quantitative analysis, as well as Chemical Reactions and Mechanisms, which examines how and why chemical reactions occur. In the third year, students advance their expertise through Synthetic Methods in Chemistry, focusing on the preparation and development of chemical compounds, and Analytical Chemistry and Spectroscopy, which expands their knowledge of advanced analytical techniques. Students also complete advanced research-based learning through options including a Chemistry Research Project, Science Research Project, or STEM Professional Practice, allowing them to apply their knowledge to scientific investigations and professional environments. The program emphasizes laboratory experience, critical analysis, problem-solving, and scientific communication, preparing graduates for careers in research, environmental science, pharmaceuticals, materials science, forensic chemistry, and other chemistry-related industries.
