COURSE CURRICULUM

The Agricultural Science program is structured to provide students with a strong foundation in the scientific principles and practical skills required for modern food and fibre production systems. After completing introductory studies in the first year, students progress to specialized agricultural subjects in the second year that develop their understanding of key areas within the discipline. Students study Soil Systems or Quantitative Biology, gaining knowledge of soil properties, biological processes, data analysis, and scientific methods used in agriculture. They also complete Animal Production, which focuses on the principles of livestock management, animal health, and sustainable production practices. In addition, students undertake Crop and Pasture Science to develop an understanding of plant growth, crop management, and pasture systems that support efficient agricultural production. The program also allows students to specialize through alternative core subjects such as Agricultural Microbiology or Applied Genetics, providing insights into microorganisms, biotechnology, genetics, and their applications in improving agricultural outcomes. Through a combination of theoretical learning and practical applications, students develop skills in sustainable agriculture, resource management, biological sciences, and agricultural innovation. The course prepares graduates to address challenges such as food security, climate change, and sustainable production while creating career opportunities in agricultural research, farming industries, biotechnology, agribusiness, and environmental management.
