COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery program is structured over five years to provide students with comprehensive medical education, clinical training, and professional development required for a career as a doctor. The course follows a progressive learning model, beginning with foundational medical knowledge and gradually advancing toward complex clinical practice and patient care. In Medical School Year 1, students complete Medicine 1, a comprehensive unit worth 200 credits that introduces essential concepts in biomedical sciences, human health, disease processes, and medical practice. In Year 2, students undertake Medicine 2, which builds on their foundational knowledge by developing deeper understanding of clinical sciences, diagnosis, treatment approaches, and healthcare systems. Year 3 focuses on Medicine 3, where students further enhance their clinical skills, medical reasoning, communication abilities, and professional practice through advanced learning experiences. In Year 4, students complete either Medicine 4 or Medicine 4 Rural, allowing them to continue their clinical education while gaining broader experience in different healthcare environments, including rural and community settings. The program emphasizes evidence-based medicine, patient-centred care, ethical practice, leadership, and lifelong learning.
