COURSE CURRICULUM

The Photography major is structured to progressively develop students’ creative, technical and professional skills through a combination of photographic practice, cultural understanding and industry preparation. In the first year, students begin with Photography Core Principles, establishing a strong foundation in photographic techniques, image creation, camera operations, composition, lighting and the creative processes behind effective visual communication. In the second year, students expand their knowledge through Image Design Culture, which explores the relationship between photography, design, society and visual meaning. Photography Contexts and Practice examines the historical, theoretical and contemporary contexts of photographic work, while Photography Studio Processes develops practical skills through experimentation with photographic methods, materials and production techniques. In the third year, students advance their creative practice through Image Concepts, focusing on developing ideas, visual narratives and innovative approaches to image-making. Photography Professional Practices 1 and Photography Professional Practices 2 prepare students for industry by building professional skills, project management abilities and knowledge of creative career pathways. The Photography Project provides an opportunity for students to apply their skills to a major body of work, demonstrating their artistic vision and technical expertise. Through studio-based learning and professional practice, graduates are prepared for careers in commercial photography, editorial photography, fine art, digital media and creative industries.
