COURSE CURRICULUM

The Fashion Design major is structured to develop students’ creative, technical and conceptual skills through a progressive exploration of garment design, cultural influences and sustainable practices. In the first year, students begin with Form and Structure, building foundational knowledge of fashion design principles, garment shapes, construction concepts and the relationship between form, materials and creative expression. In the second year, students expand their understanding through a range of specialised units. Culture and Dress explores the social, historical and cultural meanings of clothing, while Garment and the Body examines how garments interact with human anatomy, movement and identity. Sustainable Fashion introduces environmentally responsible approaches to design, production and material selection, while Technology and Dress focuses on contemporary technologies and their role in evolving fashion practices. In the third year, students consolidate their skills through advanced creative projects. Collection Development allows students to develop and present a cohesive fashion collection, demonstrating their design vision and technical abilities. Fit, Form and Function focuses on refining garment construction, wearability and practical design solutions, while Language of Dress explores communication, symbolism and storytelling through fashion. Through studio-based learning and industry-informed practice, students graduate with the skills to pursue careers in fashion design, apparel development, creative direction and related creative industries.
