COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Computing with a Cyber Security major provides students with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to protect digital systems, networks, and information from emerging cyber threats. In the first year, students develop a strong foundation in computing through studies in programming, software engineering, data structures, algorithms, computer systems, and data security. Units such as Fundamental Concepts of Data Security introduce key principles of protecting information, while Programming Design and Implementation and Unix and C Programming build technical programming skills. Students also study mathematical concepts through linear algebra and statistics, supporting analytical approaches to cybersecurity challenges. Elective units allow students to explore areas such as requirements engineering, computer science fundamentals, and cyber security concepts, broadening their understanding of secure technology development. In the second year, students specialise in the Cyber Security major, where they deepen their expertise in areas such as cryptography, network security, secure software development, digital forensics, threat detection, and incident response. The course combines theoretical understanding with practical applications, preparing graduates to identify vulnerabilities, design secure systems, and manage cybersecurity risks.
