COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences with a Molecular Genetics major provides a strong foundation in the principles of human biology, genetics, and molecular science. In the first year, students complete core units that introduce biomedical science, bioscience practice, chemistry, human structure and function, biostatistics, epidemiology, Indigenous health perspectives, anatomy, physiology, and molecular genetics and cell biology. These foundational studies develop an understanding of the biological mechanisms that influence human health and disease. In the second year, students specialise in the Molecular Genetics major, focusing on the study of genes, genomes, molecular processes, and their applications in healthcare and research. The major explores how advances in genetics and genomics can improve diagnosis, disease prevention, personalised medicine, and health outcomes. Students develop knowledge of molecular biology techniques, genetic analysis, and emerging technologies used in biomedical research. Through laboratory-based learning and scientific investigation, students gain practical skills in analysing genetic information and understanding complex biological systems.
