Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences in Human Biomedicine

COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences (Human Biomedicine) course structure provides students with a strong foundation in biomedical science before allowing them to personalise their studies through majors, specialisations and elective choices. In the first year, students complete eight core units covering fundamental biomedical science, bioscience practice, chemistry, human structure and function, anatomy, physiology, genetics, biostatistics, epidemiology and Indigenous health perspectives. These units establish essential knowledge of human biology, disease processes and scientific methods. In the second year, students undertake the Human Biomedicine major, developing advanced understanding of applied anatomy, physiology and neuroscience, while selecting additional units from a broad range of biomedical disciplines. Students can explore areas including biochemistry, cell biology, biotechnology, bioinformatics, genetics, immunology, microbiology, pathology, pharmacology, neuroscience and reproductive science. The flexible course design allows students to combine their major with internal or external specialisations, additional majors, or elective units depending on their career goals and interests. Possible combinations include a major with two specialisations, a major with an external specialisation, two majors, or a major combined with selected option units. This structure enables students to build a tailored biomedical education while developing laboratory skills, scientific knowledge and analytical abilities for careers in healthcare, research, biotechnology and further professional study.
