COURSE CURRICULUM

The course structure of the Bachelor of Advanced Science (Honours) in Marine Science is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in biological sciences, environmental systems, oceanography, and sustainable marine management. In the first year, students develop essential knowledge in biology, chemistry, programming, statistics, mathematics, land and water resources, and global environmental challenges, building the scientific basis for understanding marine ecosystems. The second year focuses on advanced marine studies, including atmospheric and oceanographic sciences, quantitative biology, marine biodiversity, applied genetics, and marine ecology, supported by research, leadership, and entrepreneurship development. In the third year, students apply their knowledge to practical marine challenges through studies in sustainable aquaculture, environmental impact assessment, fisheries science, and environmental research projects. The final year involves advanced environmental statistics and completion of either an environment and marine science dissertation or an advanced science capstone project, allowing students to undertake research or applied marine science investigations. Students can further specialise through options such as environmental restoration, wildlife conservation, and habitat mapping. Through laboratory learning, field experiences, research projects, and interdisciplinary studies, graduates develop the scientific expertise and practical skills needed for careers in marine conservation, fisheries management, aquaculture, environmental consulting, research, and sustainable management of marine ecosystems.
