COURSE CURRICULUM

The course structure of the Bachelor of Advanced Science (Honours) in Applied Mathematics is designed to develop advanced mathematical, statistical, computational, and problem-solving skills for real-world applications. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in probability, data analysis, programming, calculus, mathematical modelling, regression methods, and linear algebra, supported by a range of science and technology electives. The second year expands students’ expertise through advanced calculus, linear algebra, supply chain modelling, optimisation, operations research, and logistics applications, alongside research, leadership, and entrepreneurship development. In the third year, students apply mathematical techniques to complex systems through industrial modelling, numerical optimisation, applied mathematical modelling, and dynamic and stochastic modelling. The final year allows students to specialise through advanced mathematical topics such as complex analysis, functional analysis, optimisation, and applied statistics, while completing either a major honours dissertation or an advanced science capstone project. Throughout the course, students gain experience in mathematical modelling, computational methods, statistical analysis, and optimisation strategies used across engineering, technology, business, and scientific fields. By combining theoretical knowledge with practical applications and research opportunities, the program prepares graduates for careers in data science, operations research, industrial engineering, supply chain management, information technology, and other sectors where advanced mathematical expertise is essential.
