COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Environmental Science and Management at Charles Sturt University provides students with comprehensive scientific knowledge and practical skills to address major environmental challenges and promote sustainable management of natural resources. The program includes 96 credit points of core subjects covering ecology, conservation biology, environmental data analysis, natural resource management, environmental impact assessment, geospatial science, soil science, and geographic information systems (GIS). Students also study environmental practice, stakeholder engagement, and the relationship between people and the environment, while gaining understanding of Indigenous perspectives and environmental knowledge through compulsory subjects. The degree offers flexibility through five specialized majors: Applied Earth Sciences, Aquatic Ecosystems, Climate and Sustainability, Ecology and Conservation, and Parks, Recreation and Heritage, allowing students to focus on areas aligned with their interests and career goals. In addition, students complete elective subjects exploring advanced environmental topics such as climate change adaptation, wildlife ecology, restoration ecology, hydrology, fire ecology, environmental management, remote sensing, GIS applications, and sustainable tourism. Practical learning and field-based experiences help students apply scientific concepts to real-world environmental issues. The course also includes unrestricted electives that enable further customization of studies.
