COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Education Primary requires students to complete a total of 320 credit points, with most units valued at 10 credit points each. The course is largely made up of 290 credit points of compulsory core units that provide comprehensive training in primary education. These units cover essential areas such as literacy and numeracy development, English and mathematics education, science teaching, classroom management, student wellbeing, and child and adolescent development. Students also study curriculum areas including humanities, health and physical education, visual and performing arts, and digital technologies, along with inclusive education practices and First Nations perspectives. A key component of the program is professional experience, requiring 80 days of placement in schools, which must be completed in a specific sequence to build practical teaching skills and readiness for the classroom. In addition, students complete 30 credit points of specialist electives, choosing from areas such as humanities and social sciences or health and physical education, allowing them to develop expertise in a particular field. The course also includes academic progression rules, such as limits on introductory-level units and requirements for advanced-level study. Overall, the program combines theoretical knowledge with extensive practical experience to prepare graduates for effective teaching careers in primary school settings.
