Master of Engineering in Civil

COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Engineering (Civil Major) requires completion of 11 units (96 credits), including one core unit and a ten-unit Civil major designed to develop advanced technical and professional engineering capabilities. The program focuses on strengthening project management, leadership, stakeholder engagement, and sustainable engineering practices within the civil engineering sector. Students study key discipline areas such as Introduction to Engineering Asset and Maintenance Management and Geotechnical Engineering Design, which build expertise in infrastructure performance, maintenance strategies, and ground engineering principles. Students also complete advanced civil engineering electives including Concrete Design, Steel and Masonry Design, Advanced Transportation Engineering Design, and Advanced Water Engineering, allowing specialisation in structural, transport, or water infrastructure systems. Additional project management-focused electives such as Project Management Concepts, Initiating and Planning Projects, Executing and Closing Projects, and Leading Lean Projects help students develop strong managerial and organisational skills relevant to large-scale engineering projects. A significant component of the degree is the major research project completed over two terms through Engineering Research Project Planning and Engineering Research Project Implementation, enabling students to apply research and problem-solving skills to complex engineering challenges. The course also includes Internship Work Experience and Continuing Professional Development units, providing industry exposure and practical experience. Overall, the program prepares graduates for advanced civil engineering roles with expertise in sustainable infrastructure, project delivery, research, and professional engineering practice.
