Course Curriculum

The Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours) requires you to complete 27 units, totalling 192 credits. The course is structured to build your theoretical knowledge, clinical reasoning, and hands-on skills progressively through a mix of health science, occupational therapy-specific subjects, research, and professional practice placements.You will begin with foundation units such as Introduction to Allied Health Practice, Medical Anatomy and Physiology 1 and 2, Fundamentals of Psychology, and Research Methods for Health Professionals. These subjects establish a strong grounding in the health sciences and research literacy. Alongside this, you will engage with early occupational therapy concepts through units like Introduction to Occupational Therapy Theory and Practice, Introduction to Activity and Occupation, and Occupational Performance across the Lifespan.As you advance, you will explore more specialised topics, including Occupational Justice, Enabling Mental Health, Enabling Strategies in Neurological Rehabilitation, and Enabling Work Participation. These units prepare you to address diverse client needs across different settings. Additional study in areas such as Neurological Physiology, Health Promotion Strategies, and Rural and Remote Practice further broadens your professional scope.A major component of the course is its strong focus on professional practice. You will complete multiple placement-based units, including Professional Occupational Therapy Practice 1 and 2, where you gain valuable real-world experience in clinical and community contexts. Residential schools are also embedded to consolidate your practical and applied skills.The honours component is integrated throughout, with Research Project for Health Professionals 1 and 2, where you will develop and apply evidence-based approaches to occupational therapy practice. In your final year, units such as Transition to Professional Practice, Specialisation in Occupational Therapy, and Developing Occupation-Centred Community Programs prepare you to enter the workforce as a confident, competent practitioner.
