COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Project Management at Australian National University is a 96-unit postgraduate program designed to develop advanced skills in managing complex projects, leading teams, and delivering organisational outcomes in dynamic global environments. The degree consists of 72 units of compulsory coursework that builds a strong foundation in project management, business, and systems thinking. Core subjects include managing in a global context, financial statements and reporting, introduction to systems engineering, technology and project management, evidence-based management, project risk and resiliency (or project monitoring and control), managing major projects, project organisation, leading people and change, tools and techniques for business project management, and marketing management. Together, these courses provide students with a comprehensive understanding of project planning, execution, governance, stakeholder management, financial decision-making, and organisational leadership. The program also integrates interdisciplinary knowledge from business and engineering, ensuring graduates can operate effectively in complex technical and commercial environments. In addition to the core curriculum, students complete either 24 units of a chosen specialisation—such as business information systems, entrepreneurship and innovation, leadership, marketing, or international business—or 24 units of ANU-wide elective courses, allowing flexibility to tailor the degree to individual career goals. Capstone learning is embedded in key advanced subjects such as project risk and resiliency and managing major projects, ensuring practical integration of theory and real-world application.
