Course Curriculum

The Bachelor of Education (Primary and Secondary) is structured to develop strong pedagogical skills, deep curriculum knowledge and practical teaching experience across both primary and secondary levels. Across the four-year program, students complete a sequence of core education studies units, primary curriculum units and secondary discipline studies, along with a specialised teaching area. In the first year, students undertake foundational units in learning, teaching, literacy, educational thought and digital or mathematical capability, depending on their background, alongside introductory primary literacy studies. The second year expands understanding of teaching practice with school placements, English and arts curriculum studies, primary mathematics and further secondary disciplinary units, as well as the first secondary curriculum unit. In the third year, students progress into science, technologies, health and physical education, humanities and additional secondary discipline and curriculum units. A winter term placement focuses on engaging learners and managing learning environments. By the final year, students complete their chosen primary specialisation in areas such as English, mathematics, arts, humanities, religious education or science, while also advancing to higher-level secondary discipline units. They further develop expertise in inclusive education, professional communication and data-informed practice. The program culminates in a major professional experience placement in a primary school setting, ensuring students graduate classroom ready with strong capability across both sectors.
