COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Information Technology (MIT) with a specialisation in Cyber Security is structured to ensure students develop both a solid foundation in core IT concepts and advanced expertise in information security. To qualify for the award, students must complete a total of twelve units, equivalent to 96 credit points, comprising seven core units, three specialisation units, and two elective units. The core units establish essential knowledge across key areas of IT, beginning with Information Systems, Data and Information Management, and Software and Systems Design, all designed for students from diverse academic backgrounds. As students progress, they undertake Research Methods and Data Analysis, which equips them with analytical and investigative skills needed for higher-level study and applied project work. The curriculum also includes Computer Networks and Security, a unit that introduces foundational security principles and prepares students for more advanced cybersecurity coursework. Project Constraint Management broadens students’ understanding of project planning, scheduling, and resource management, ensuring they are able to coordinate complex technological initiatives within organisational environments. The program culminates in the Applied Project, where students demonstrate their capacity to apply research-driven insights, technical skills, and problem-solving strategies to real-world cybersecurity challenges. Alongside the core units, students complete three specialised cybersecurity units, enabling them to build deep knowledge in areas such as secure systems design, incident response, cyber defence, and risk management frameworks. Two elective units further allow students to tailor their study plan to personal interests or professional goals, supporting exploration into emerging technologies or complementary IT disciplines. Overall, the course structure is designed to produce graduates who are technically proficient, analytically strong, and industry-ready, capable of addressing contemporary cybersecurity threats and contributing effectively to organisational resilience across corporate, government, and critical infrastructure sectors.
