COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science (MSc) in Chemistry is a program designed to provide students with both a solid foundation in core chemical disciplines and in-depth research experience. Students are required to complete a thesis based on original research, along with two or three half-credit graduate courses—one of which may be from another program—and four half-credit research seminar courses. As part of the seminar requirement, students must present at least one seminar on their thesis research, while others are delivered by faculty members and invited experts. The program emphasizes close faculty mentorship and small class sizes, creating a collaborative and supportive academic environment. Research within the department spans a wide range of topics including biophysics of biomolecular interactions, environmental chemistry, organic and inorganic synthesis, structural analysis, and the chemistry of molecules in living cells. Some projects explore the development of nanocomposite materials for use in sensors or catalysts. The curriculum is designed to equip students with transferable practical skills and a comprehensive understanding of organic, inorganic, biological, physical, and analytical chemistry. Sample courses include Advanced Organic Synthesis, Aquatic Geochemistry, Topics in Nanomaterials and Biomaterials, Environmental Heterogeneous Catalysis, Membrane Transport and Cellular Communication, and Advanced Topics in Chemistry and Biochemistry.
