COURSE CURRICULUM

Laurier’s Environmental Science program provides a comprehensive foundation in understanding and addressing the complex environmental challenges facing our planet. In your first year, you will explore core courses such as Biological Diversity and Evolution, Calculus for the Natural Sciences, Environment, Sustainability, and Society, Fundamentals of Chemistry I and II, Introduction to Physical Geography, Introductory Calculus, The Anatomy of Earth, and Unifying Life Processes, alongside 0.5 elective credit and options like Astronomy I or Foundations for Community Engagement and Service. These courses equip students with a strong grounding in the principles of ecology, geology, chemistry, and environmental systems while fostering critical thinking and quantitative skills. Upper-year courses build on this foundation with hands-on learning opportunities and specialized topics, including Field Surveying, Global Biogeography and Conservation Biology, Environmental Aquatic Chemistry, Environmental Impact Assessment, Plant Ecology, and Global Issues in Water and Environmental Health. Students gain practical experience through laboratory experiments, fieldwork, and data analysis, developing the technical and analytical skills necessary to assess and manage natural resources and ecosystems effectively. Graduates are prepared for careers in environmental consulting, sustainability, resource management, conservation, and regulatory roles, or for advanced study in environmental science, equipping them to make meaningful contributions toward solving pressing environmental problems and promoting ecological stewardship worldwide.
