COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biochemistry and Biotechnology program at Laurier offers a dynamic blend of foundational science courses and specialized upper-year classes that prepare you for careers in research, health, and biotechnology. In your first year, you’ll build a strong scientific base through courses such as General Chemistry I and II, Unifying Life Processes, and Biological Diversity and Evolution, alongside essential math and physics classes like Calculus I for the Natural Sciences, Mechanics, and Thermodynamics and Waves. You will also have the opportunity to explore electives, including Introduction to Psychology I, Introduction to Programming, or The Anatomy of the Earth, giving you the flexibility to broaden your knowledge and connect disciplines. As you advance, upper-year courses deepen your expertise in molecular mechanisms and applied biotechnology, with classes such as Molecular Biology and Genetics, Biotechnology, and Bioinformatics: Genomics and Proteomics. These courses combine hands-on laboratory experience with theoretical understanding, helping you develop the practical skills and critical thinking required to excel in health sciences, pharmaceutical research, and emerging biotechnology fields.
