COURSE CURRICULUM

Bachelor of Arts in Spanish offers a structured yet flexible curriculum that supports both language development and cultural understanding. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through core courses such as Introduction to Spanish I and Introduction to Spanish II, where they develop essential skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Students also take one to two courses in their additional major, allowing them to combine Spanish with another area of interest. First-year electives provide opportunities to broaden perspectives and explore global themes, with options such as Introductory French, One Planet, Many Worlds, Modern Standard Arabic, Revolution in the Modern World, Religions of the Americas, and Politics Beyond Borders. As students progress into upper years, they deepen their linguistic and cultural knowledge through specialized courses like History of Spain and Latin America, Spanish Language through Cinema, Spanish Phonetics and Phonology, and Spanish Art, Music and Media. These courses enhance fluency while exploring the richness and diversity of Spanish-speaking cultures. Through this combination of language training and cultural study, students develop strong communication, analytical, and intercultural skills, preparing them for careers in international business, education, translation, tourism, diplomacy, and global communications in an increasingly interconnected world.
