COURSE CURRICULUM

Sociology program offers a well-rounded curriculum that introduces students to the foundations of social analysis while allowing them to explore diverse areas of interest. In the first year, students build a strong base through core courses such as Introduction to Sociology I: Critical Foundations and Introduction to Sociology II: Exploring Social Life, where they learn key theories, concepts, and methods used to understand how societies function. First-year electives provide opportunities to expand perspectives across disciplines, including courses like Introduction to Psychology, Introduction to Women and Gender Studies, Introduction to the Criminal Justice System, Philosophy of Happiness, Canadian Communication in Context, Cultures Today, and One Planet, Many Worlds. As students move into upper years, they can specialize in areas that reflect their interests and career goals. Courses such as Sociology of Families, Sociology of Health and Illness, Sociology of Race and Ethnicity, and Sociology of Crime examine important social issues and inequalities, while Interviews and Focus Groups develops practical research skills for collecting and analyzing data.
