COURSE CURRICULUM

Laurier’s Public Safety program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to prepare students for impactful careers in law enforcement, emergency management, government, and community services. In the first and second years, students take core courses such as Introduction to Public Safety, Public Safety Administration and Government Relations, Introduction to Digital Technology and Public Safety, Leadership and Career Development in Law Enforcement, Public Safety Policy Analysis, Gladue Principles, and Social Science Research Methods. These courses provide a strong foundation in understanding the complexities of public safety systems, ethical decision-making, leadership, and the application of technology and policy in real-world contexts. Students can also select electives such as Leadership and Personal Development, Introduction to the Criminal Justice System, Foundations for Community Engagement and Service, and Introduction to Indigenous Studies, allowing them to explore areas of personal interest and broaden their understanding of societal and cultural dynamics. Upper-year courses, including Theories of Correctional Justice, Emergency Management Interoperability, GIS, Crime Mapping, and RTM, and Immigration and Conflict Zones, focus on specialized skills and applied knowledge, preparing students for leadership roles and problem-solving in dynamic public safety environments. Through this combination of theoretical study, practical skills, and experiential learning, graduates are equipped to make meaningful contributions to the safety, resilience, and well-being of diverse communities.
