Laurier’s Police Studies program offers an in-depth exploration of modern policing, combining foundational knowledge with advanced, specialized courses. In your first year, you’ll build core competencies through courses like Introduction to Policing and Police Psychology, gaining essential insights into law enforcement practices, human behavior, and the psychological dynamics that influence policing decisions. As you progress into upper-year studies, you will examine complex topics including Civil Unrest: The State’s Use of Force Against its Citizens, Cybercrime, and Ethics, Corruption, and Policy Accountability, equipping you to analyze and respond to contemporary challenges in policing. Courses such as Immigration and Conflict Zones, Mental Health, Addiction, and Crime, and Intercultural Communication emphasize understanding diverse communities and the social context in which law enforcement operates, while Leadership and Career Development and Reasoning and Argumentation in the Criminal Justice System prepare you with practical skills for decision-making, problem-solving, and effective communication.
