Laurier’s North American Studies program offers a rich interdisciplinary curriculum that allows students to explore the continent’s history, culture, politics, and economy while developing a deep understanding of regional dynamics. In your first year, you can choose electives such as Introductory French, One Planet, Many Worlds, Studying Popular Culture, Canadian Communication in Context, and Politics Beyond Borders, providing a broad foundation in language, global perspectives, and social analysis. These courses help you build critical thinking, communication, and research skills while exploring the social, political, and cultural factors that shape North America. As you progress to upper-year courses, you will delve deeper into specialized topics like Canadian Identities and Cultures, Managing Borders and Boundaries in North America, North American Business and Society, Canadian-American Relations, and Indigenous Peoples and Public Policy. These courses provide the opportunity to analyze complex issues such as cross-border trade, cultural exchange, governance, and Indigenous policy from multiple disciplinary perspectives.
