COURSE CURRICULUM

Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Mathematics at Laurier, first-year students build a strong foundation in core mathematical concepts through required courses such as Calculus I and II, Introductory Linear Algebra, and Introduction to Mathematical Proofs. These courses provide the essential analytical and problem-solving skills necessary for advanced study. Complementing the core, students can choose electives like Introduction to Programming, Introduction to Data Analytics, or Data Structures I, allowing them to explore the intersection of mathematics with computing and data-driven applications. As students progress to upper-year studies, they have the opportunity to specialize and expand their mathematical knowledge through a wide range of courses. These include Geometry and Differential Geometry, Graph Theory, Partial Differential Equations, Dynamical Systems, and Mathematical Biology, providing insight into both pure and applied mathematics. Advanced topics such as Group Theory, Ring and Field Theory, and Advanced Linear Algebra deepen understanding of abstract mathematical structures, while courses like Probability, Stochastic Processes, Regression Analysis, Monte Carlo Methods, Statistical Learning, Optimization, and Data Analytics prepare students for practical, data-focused applications.
