COURSE CURRICULUM

Laurier Brantford’s Law and Society program offers a diverse range of courses designed to give students a deep understanding of how law interacts with society. In the first year, students build a strong foundation with core courses such as Introduction to Law and Society I and II, which explore the role of law in shaping social, political, and cultural life. First-year electives provide opportunities to broaden perspectives through courses like History Detectives, Introduction to Indigenous Studies, Fundamentals of Human Rights, and Politics within Borders, encouraging students to critically examine historical, cultural, and political contexts. Upper-year courses allow students to specialize and engage with more complex topics, including Compassion, Justice and the Law, Gender, Sexuality, and Law, Indigenous Forms of Justice, International Law, Labour Law, Law and the Environment, Politics and Government in Canada, and Sentencing Law. This progression equips students with practical analytical and research skills while fostering critical thinking about legal systems and their impact on communities. By integrating theory with real-world issues, the program prepares graduates for careers in law, public policy, social advocacy, human rights, and related fields, while providing a strong foundation for further study in law, criminology, or social sciences. Students leave the program ready to analyze, challenge, and shape the legal and social structures that govern our world.
