COURSE CURRICULUM

International Education Studies program, students engage with a diverse range of courses that provide both theoretical foundations and practical applications. In the Global Studies component, first-year courses such as Global Studies in Practice, One Planet, Many Worlds, and Mapping Global Studies: Culture, Conflict, Development introduce students to key concepts in global issues, cultural dynamics, and international development. These courses cultivate a broad understanding of how social, political, and cultural factors influence communities worldwide and prepare students to analyze complex global challenges. The Education component complements this perspective by focusing on teaching and learning in international contexts. Courses such as Introduction to Education in International Contexts and Culturally Sustaining Pedagogy— which includes a Canadian placement—help students explore educational philosophies, intercultural teaching strategies, and the adaptation of curricula for diverse learner populations. Additional courses, including Introduction to Adult Education, Theories of Learning and Development, General Teaching Methods, and Language and Literacy Development in Multilingual Contexts, equip students with the practical skills needed to design effective learning experiences and support diverse learners. By combining global perspectives with applied educational practices, students gain the knowledge and hands-on experience necessary for careers in international education, teaching, human rights, and global development, preparing them for meaningful contributions in a connected world.
