COURSE CURRICULUM

The Economics program at Laurier offers a flexible and comprehensive academic experience that begins with core first-year courses such as Introduction to Microeconomics, Introduction to Macroeconomics, and either Introductory Calculus for Business and Social Sciences or Calculus I, along with 3.5 credits of non-economics electives. These electives allow students to explore a wide range of interests through courses like Evil and Its Symbols, Environment, Sustainability and Society, and Pirates! A World History. As students advance in the program, they can choose from a variety of upper-year courses that cover topics such as Economics of Inequality, Economic Development, Environmental Economics, Health Economics, Industrial Organization, Sports Economics, and the Economics of the Canadian Banking and Financial System. To further tailor their education, students have access to several academic options and minors that either deepen their specialization or broaden their skill set. Popular choices include the Data Analytics Option, Entrepreneurship Option, International Policy Option, Legal Studies Option, and Management Option. The Management Option is a direct-entry, 4.0-credit program designed for students who want to add a solid foundation in management to their economics degree and includes core courses across business disciplines. Students interested in this path can apply directly to Economics with Management Option through OUAC, creating a well-rounded and career-ready degree.
