COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology program offers a diverse curriculum that allows students to explore human societies, cultures, and behaviors from multiple perspectives while developing practical and analytical skills. In the first year, students engage with core courses such as Celebrating/Contesting Cultures, which provide foundational knowledge of cultural expression, identity, and social dynamics. First-year electives allow students to explore complementary disciplines and topics, including One Planet, Many Worlds, Media History, Invitation to Archaeology, Religions of the Americas, Studying Popular Culture, Introduction to Sociology, and Introduction to Women and Gender Studies, offering a broad understanding of human experience and diverse analytical frameworks. As students progress into upper-year courses, they can delve deeper into specialized topics such as Language, Culture and Society, which examines the interplay between communication and cultural norms; Indigenous Peoples in Global Context, exploring histories and contemporary issues of Indigenous communities; Religion, Ritual and Magic, studying belief systems and spiritual practices; Culture as Performance, analyzing social and artistic expression; Animals and People, investigating human-animal relationships; and Race, Ethnicity and Nationalism, addressing identity, power, and social structures. The program integrates theoretical knowledge with practical research opportunities, fostering critical thinking, cross-cultural awareness, and analytical skills.
