COURSE CURRICULUM

The Theatre Diploma program at VIU is a comprehensive two-year course designed to provide students with foundational and intermediate knowledge in acting, theatre history, and stagecraft. In the first year, students complete core courses such as Fundamentals of Acting I and II, Introduction to Theatre, Theatre History I, and Theatre Stagecraft I and II, along with degree English requirements and two electives, totaling 30 credits. The second year deepens this learning with courses like Theatre History II and III, and options to focus on Intermediate Stagecraft and Intermediate Work in Acting, allowing students to tailor their studies based on their interests. Additionally, students choose two non-theatre electives and other courses to complete the 30 credits required in the second year. This blend of practical acting and technical stagecraft courses, combined with theatre history and electives, equips students with a well-rounded understanding of theatre production, performance, and its historical context, preparing them for a variety of roles within the performing arts industry.
