COURSE CURRICULUM

The Resource Management Officer Technology Diploma program spans two years and provides students with comprehensive training to work in natural resource protection and enforcement. In the first year, students complete 37 credits covering fundamental topics such as small motors, technical report writing, resource acts and regulations, B.C. fisheries and wildlife, parks and protected areas, and essential field skills. They also study computer applications for natural resource technologists and take introductory zoology courses along with university writing and introductory statistics to build a strong scientific and communication foundation. In the second year, students complete 36 credits focused on advanced topics including habitat management, resource management seminars, and a two-credit field practicum that offers hands-on experience. The curriculum also covers enforcement project reports, legal and investigative procedures, court and administrative procedures, and human-wildlife conflict management. Additionally, students learn wildlife techniques, forest resource management, and mapping skills. This blend of practical and theoretical coursework, combined with fieldwork and legal training, equips graduates with the knowledge and skills to support natural resource law enforcement agencies effectively. The program prepares students for careers in fisheries, wildlife, and parks resource protection with an emphasis on real-world application, ensuring they are ready for the demands of natural resource management roles.
